"Collects82" offers some sound helpful advice. You are wise to unload the lower quality duplicates & use the $ to fill in gaps.

Education & learning how to grade are your 1st steps. I've sold most of my original collection on ebay about 16 years ago. Mine wasn't inherited but collected the good ol' fashion way. There's a lot involved so try to get to know ebay (or alt platform) if you choose that way. Try to be as transparent as possible about the coin (full-disclosure) in your LISTING & learn to take well-lit decent photos of each item you sell.

If you sell in-person (like Kijiji) be sure it's one at a time & in a public setting (like a local coffee shop). Set yourself some hard security minded guidelines & don't break (or make exceptions) to these (for a few extra bucks). (You could keep a few other coins in your trunk -but size up the collector first). Remember your safety (& peace of mind) trumps all other factors. Don't advertise your new inheritance.

While selling, get to identify the gaps in your collection & develop a sense of what you wish to acquire. Try for the best grade you can afford, take your time & be open to 2nd opinions. For older more pricey items you might wish to go TPG (Third Party Graded) slabbed coins so you get what you paid for (rather than rely on your grading skills).

I think it's a good custom to set some goals (guidelines) to what exactly you will acquire since this can get way out of hand (expensive & too large if you don't) That's why I recommend you get yourself some decent coin catalogues. There's nothing like a hard copy (which is treasure trove of info) in these & they often help collectors learn about grades, key dates & determine what they're after.
