Does anyone collect these coins? I'm not trolling for a buyer.... I'd just like to find out what people collect and what there sources are.

Hi akglen:

Some thoughts in answer to your general question. I collect a variety of "world" and US coins. I have and prize a number of proofs from Germany, France, and other European countries. Your pictures of these Austrian shillings have me convinced I need to look out for some of these very attractive designs!

It's not always easy to find sources, that's for sure. In my current part of the country, often times coin shops have little to choose from beyond a small pile of standard fare. This has made certain web dealers a more attractive solution, as well as the odd coin show. If you are based in the US you HAVE to try to get out to a coin show and talk to dealers, it's really the best way to have an idea of what you can get for what kind of prices. There are dealers who specialize in world coins that you'll only find at shows--these folks are vital sources of information... Second only to some of the experts that post on this site, of course!
Happy hunting!
