just found this bill in the back of a safe and then remembered that a few years ago I received this from an elderly lady. It was part of a small coin collection I bought locally. She said she washed it by mistake.. full cycle in her new washing machine. She was very proud that it survived the cycle. Please feel free to freely comment. I have another image of it which I will post after a few comments are received. Have fun with it H Edited by 47P7 03/11/2021 2:16 pm

Hmmmm... to be honest, I'd expect far less damage! Maybe the paper has more paper-pulp than US dollars do? OR it was already pretty rough when it hit the spin cycle?

The Journey series started with a quick change back to cotton paper but really crappy quality after Domtar Luminus was suppose to be the supplier but pulled out.

Just a good thing it was a common AOC prefix (& not something tougher like AOF) nor a special serial number.
And yes, early, original Journey were brutally delicate - so easily/quickly damaged/wrinkled by the least bit of circulation. Almost like thin-papered French banknotes (except they weren't that thin).

No, you are right. I actually got back into collecting when I discovered how crap the paper was on the Journeys. It was kind of like: I gotta get me some of these (in UNC that is).

Quote: Has any of you actually compared this note with one which you have? if you have not done so, PLEASE do I have & lots of the former note images of 3 players in the middle are missing (or barely visible as to be expected with a damaged note). Here's the back of an original $5 AOB:

What the? I am just browsing here, no experience with Canadian currency BUT I know a thing or two about paper and I NEVER expected to see the "plys" of a bill delaminating!

Not sure your washed note is counterfeit, The BOC in it's short sighted thinking at the time experimented with Duranotes a complete polymer and Luminous which was a poly sandwiched by rag paper, even though both test shows the notes will last 5 to 8 times and prevents counterfeiting the BOC were worried about 8 cents to 30 cent. Last minutes they chose a new paper supplier and created the most counterfeited notes in the Journey series

Trust me guys this $ 5 is a fake there are many other facts/pointers which say so. And btw.... The Bosch wash machine was only to make it interesting and to see who would actually catch on that it is a fake. the delaminating is actually 2 sheets only which were glued together I received the bill as is and I believe that it has never been in a washing machine at all. many years ago, so I was told, these and similar were given as tips in bars. As it is, I sent this Bill to a fellow (MM)who is a member on the coin forum and specializes in chasing down forgeries. After many years it is finally out of my house.

The scenes of Canada series in the 70 there was a dealer in the US who did a great job of separating 1 dollar notes and put them back together as error inverted backs. Not sure who the paper supplier back in 54 series
