Eventually, I should be able to cut dies directly on my milling/engraving machine, bypassing the other steps. I also want to get my own coin press, but I'll need to mint and sell more of my coins to fund that !
With your talent there should be clubs and organizations all over the world that would be willing to place orders with you. you have impressed us all Thank you for sharing.

As a coin designer, do you have any designs that you admire?
Quite a few, actually. Most of them are medals. A lot of people think the St. Gaudens $20 double eagle (especially the high relief version) is the best US coin. I like it, especially the REVERSE, bit it isn't even close to being my favorite. Overall, I actually like Longacre's $20 Liberty better than the St. Gaudens. My favorite US circulating coin designs are probably the Indian Head nickel, Walking Liberty half dollar, and the Heraldic Eagle Bust dollar.

That is a very attractive medal, and one I'll be watching for. I'm curious why the design elements were chosen or what symbolism is involved.
Fort Collins is a town in Northern Colorado. Thus, the Colorado State Quarter theme. But instead of Long's Peak, the medal shows a design similar to the actual Colorado State Quarter, but with Horsetooth Rock - a landmark in the foothills visible to the west of town. Several club members live outside town in the county, and thus the reference to "Larimer County". Fort Collins is the home of the Colorado State University (CSU) Rams (my wife went there). The Bighorn sheep also live nearby in the mountains. The Fort Collins area is known as a major stop-over for migrating Canada Geese (actually, the "pests" hang around all year sometimes). The Fort Collins city logo features geese. And lastly, up in the hills of Larimer County is one of the only diamond mines in the western United States. The perimeter of the coin is actually made up of 50 squares (diamonds) overlapping in a circular pattern. This forms many small diamond shapes, some of which will be polished on the proof-like version.

I guess that everywhere in the world a job like that entails to know at least some influential people

Thanks Daniel,
You seem to be as kind as you are skilled; answered all the questions. But in a place like this, you will receive a lot of questions :)

Daniel:
Welcome to a fellow Coloradoan.
I loved your design for the Nevada quarter, and wish it had been accepted, even though the design chosen is nice.
You do wonderful work!

Daniel mentions Fort Collins as his home. Although I prefer the Western Slope, Fort Collins is a beautiful city, located in a very pretty area.

Daniel, I am about to ask a question that may not even be possible for you to answer at this time. What I'm interested in is the possibility of someone (me) traveling down to Fort Collins and being able to visit your studios and if lucky see you at your work designing medals. Also interested in knowing if you have a open sales area at your location where one of my relatives who happens to live in Greeley might stop in and pick up one or more of your designs in medals? Thanks for the time to reply. Always your Wyoming friend.

OldDan, I'm flattered that you would be interested in coming to pay a visit. My current studio/shop is set up in my house/garage. It isn't very conducive to having visitors. I am working towards getting a true commercial space somewhere, where I could have my studio/shop and my yet-to-be-acquired press. At that time I will be able to have visitors. I don't know when that will be, but it depends on finances, as usual. For now, I have a "shopping cart" web site as my "sales area". I don't have the Fort Collins medals listed yet, but I'll make an announcement when I do.

do you ever take request for a design, The club I belong to is about to have there 50th anv. next year. the clubs is in idaho and the idaho quater comes out and I was not sure if you do designs for other clubs. We are looking at giving something neat at our show the club puts on. I think this might be something that would be great.
