I have read that some people have slabbed coins where the slab has scratches on it and has a hazy look to them and I was wondering if polishing them with tooth paste, not gel, might help a little?
I used to do this with the lens of a LED wrist watch that I had and it helped somewhat, just a thought.

I doubt if toothpaste would work very well and it might make it worse
Go to an auto parts store and find a polish for removing scratches and haze from plastic headlight assemblies- they are specifically designed to clarify clear plastics.

I use that stuff on my light covers, and it won't harm plastics

Exactly. Some places sell a slab polish, but I think it's the same stuff, just at a higher price.
