Am I Being Paranoid About This NGC Graded Coin?

PastExpiry Valued Member Canada 96 Posts	Posted 04/05/2021 12:18 am I have an opportunity to buy this NGC graded shipwreck coin. I have seen many like this on ebay where the condition is bad enough that you cannot make out the date, so there is no year of the coin in slab's sticker title. What I found odd is that if you look at the photos on the NGC site, you can (or at least I can) see the date is 1783. Is this just a mistake on their part ? PNWType Pillar of the Community United States 561 Posts	Posted 04/05/2021 02:55 am Interesting, but from a google search of other NGC graded Cazador wreck coinage it seems like, though uncommon, they sometimes neglect the date even if it seems fairly legible. I also saw a few that marked it as (1777-83) if they couldn't read the date but others that were just left blank, a bit inconsistent. My guess is because they are just marking all of the Cazador salvage as genuine and not attributing a grade that perhaps the consistency control isn't always the most stringent. But, so long as the coin matches the cert lookup in the NGC site, they are guaranteeing it genuine, and that's what matters (also I definitely see 1783 as well, seems clear enough) Edit: just noticed the slab in the photo on the NGC page looks much older than the ones I find on google based on the reverse NGC logo sticker.
