Iceland 1925 10 Aurar Ghost R - Coin Community Forum

norseman012 Valued Member United States 357 Posts	Posted 12/27/2008 3:14 pm Here are a few pic's of a 1925 10 Aurar with what I think is a backwards R to the left of the coin. The line that makes up the shadow is raised and if you look real good at it to the left you will see that it turns to the left like a reversed R. maybe the person started engraving the reverse die and decided not too and made it the obverse. The coin is in ms-64 condition and being that it has not been in circulation retained this feature. KurtS Pillar of the Community United States 5318 Posts	Posted 12/27/2008 5:36 pm Beautiful coin! I wish my 1939/6 looked like that. I think I do see the reverse of an "R" to the left of the 10. Here's one idea as to the cause...If the dies "clashed", ie hit each other without a coin in the press, It seems the "ghost" backwards R is in the correct position to be a clash mark (if that's indeed what happened)--thoughts? But this year is the only one I held in my hands in unc so I really don't know for sure becauce I never seen a clashed coin before. Thanks Again for the input. Report this Post to the Staff
