I was going thru all my saved web sites to clean/delete some places that I never go to and found this gem that I forgot about. I believe I got this place from one of the old CW members, tho I do not remember who. In any event, I re-read the entire article today and still find it to be valuable. I thought it would be neat to share this site and all the other interesting articles with our members here. Any ways enjoy the reading, the noobs should get some education outa this--

For the longest time I felt the only coins I would buy on ebay were slabbed coins. I will have to re-think this now, After being Burned a couple of times already. Thanks

This article just goes to show that there are no shortcuts. We all need to do our research and can't count on someone else (not even a TPG) to do our homework for us.

The first time I even heard about such authentication services is in this forum.
We don't have any such companies due to lack of a real collector community here.
Slabbing sure helps with purchasing process. But of course people need to be careful.

I've got to ask; how much does it cost to have a coin graded? (on average)

With PCGS and NGC, you need to pay $99 or so a year for membership and then individual grading fees. I am not sure of the fee schedule as I don't use either of these services.

With ANACS, there are no membership fees and you can submit directly to them. Their fee schedule is:

2 Days - $39
5 Days - $25
10 Days - $15
Economy (21 Days) - $12
Solid Gold (3 Days and US Gold Coins Only) - $20
Modern (16 Days) - $11

These prices are per coin. You then have to add the return insured shipping which depends upon the number of coins submitted and value. for 1-50 coins submitted with a total value of $5000 or less, the return shipping runs from $11 to $25.
