I found a 2021 Lincoln Shield cent on which Lincoln's eye appears closed. What kind of error could cause this? I don't think this is PMD and so far all I can think of is some kind of foreign matter in the die. Does anyone know what this is, or if it is error or PMD? I'm in the error court right now but would like some more experienced eyes on this. Thanks in advance.

It's not an error, it's contact damage. It is an interesting look, but it didn't happen during the strike.

I guess somebody gave Lincoln a black eye then. Too bad, I was naturally hoping for an error. Thank you Yokozuna. I appreciate the help.
