I have been slowly cataloguing the coins that I have gathered over 40 years. I have a 1975 proof set that has both commemorative dollars in it, i.e., the silver Calgary and the canoe nickle dollar.

I have two questions:
  • What is the approximate value; and
  • mine has a certificate that says et al, You are now the proud owner...which contains copies of the two 1974 Commemorative coins ....100th Anniversary of the City of Winnipeg. The certificate came with the set many years ago. Was this a usual occurrence or do you believe it was swapped post minting?

Cheers

You can probably do a quick check on competed auctions on ebay to get an idea as what the set is worth. Somewhere in the area of $18 to $20 CDN or $14 to $16 USD.

Thanks mkb
Its sometimes difficult to determine value from an ebay auction, but I did find two ranging from USD$15.57 to USD$39.95 (Singapore)

I suspect your value is much closer to the mark than the Singapore one. I also managed to see a certificate that quoted 1975 as Calgary, so someone down the line someone has swapped certificates on me.
Thanks again.
