My best variety find so far going through a large pile of change that my friend allowed me to hunt for him. I'm a big fan of these mid to late 70s extra thickness DDOs. I've included side by sides of the date and LIBERTY with a normal coin of this date for comparison. Here is the VV listing for reference. Note the thickness of the tail of the 9 and 7 on the date, the notching on the bottom of the I in LIBERTY, and the extra thickness on the foot of the R in TRUST and the bars f the E in WE. http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20...8PDDO001.htm

Yours looks like circulation flattening to me, not a DDO.

@John it's a DDO. The flaired tips on the E in WE are the most obvious pickup point for these class VI DDOs. Also the extra height on the foot of the R in TRUST.

I'm of course open to being convinced otherwise if someone with a really high level of knowledge about minor varieties like these has a good reason to be suspicious, but you tend not to see minor varieties in my experience, John. Don't mean that to offend, just my observation from seeing a lot of your posts. Not everyone has an interest in this sort of thing.

Definitely has some Class VI thickness, neat find! There are 4-5(?) dies known with doubling like this so I'm not entirely sure if this is DDO-001 or one of the others.

I have WDDO-001/1DO-002 (which might cross-reference to DDO-001, haven't been able to confirm that).

@Tanman Thanks! And that is good to know - I had only checked VV and Wexler, who only have one die listed. Just checked coppercoins and I see you're right, they have four. I will have to take a closer look to make sure I have the correct attribution number.

@Believe7 How can you know that you own several of these if you didn't realize they were even DDOs?

I had to look at coops pics a few times, but I now agree it is DDO-001. Nice find and you have a good eye.

Thanks John! Hope my comment earlier didn't offend at all. Nothing but respect for your knowledge as a collector. These minor die varieties are a real passion of mine, but I realize that many people don't care enough to devote a lot of time to identifying every little microscopic DDO and DDR!
