Suspected Plantation Token On An 1836 Mexican Quartilla .

I suspect that the counterstamp on the Mexican coin below was a private, as opposed to government, issue. The stamp may have originated outside Mexico; possibly, another central American or Caribbean country? Its crude design makes me suspect the coin was stamped in the mid-1800's. As the stamp obliterates the 1/4 denomination, I'm guessing the coin was perhaps repurposed as a "picker" or worker check?

I'm particularly hoping another forum member may recognize this countermark and attribute it to a specific locale and time for me ....

I see that pieces like this are typically referred to as "hacienda" or ranch tokens. I would note that 1836, the coin's date, was the year of the Alamo siege.

It looks like no one can offer a clue, at least, to help with attribution. Well, there's a never-ending number of USA counterstamps to get attributed!
