I rather disagree with that I have one EXACTLY like this, only an 1800 certified as an MS 60 by SGS.

Wow, I sure hope you didn't pay much because that coin is an obvious fake. Here's a PCGS coin.... Got a picture of your SGS slab? You do realize that an authentic 1800 draped bust dollar in MS60 is a minimum 25K coin right?

Scubu: I do not know how to get pictures from the camera, to the internet. I bought that coin on ebay about a year ago from Bangladesh. I paid $3. I then sent it to SGS, which cost approximately $18. Therefore paid about $21.

Sorry, I'd bet my last dollar you paid $21 too much.

Scuba: isn't the goal of having your coins certified to eliminate all question as to the authenticity?

Sorry Isaiah and I don't want you to get out of the hobby over $21; but your $3 ebay coin from Bangladesh is not going to end up being a genuine 1800 Draped Bust Dollar worth $30,000. ebay is loaded with sellers from Asia peddling fake U.S. coins. SGS is not a legitimate grading service either as proven by your experience.

Scubu: I sent them to SGS because I've heard they are excellent with authentication, but not grading. Not to mention they were very cheap. I don't agree with the assigned grade. It's an XF 40 at best.

Also, compared to a genuine example, I agree my coin is counterfeit.

I love SGS. I have 3 coins slabbed by them and I love them all this was just the most expensive one.

Quote: Also, compared to a genuine example, I agree my coin is counterfeit. People have been known to pay hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars learning this particular lesson - you really caught the luck train on that one! SGS is not a reputable grader/authenticator - do a search here on the forum for that name and check out the topics that come up.. not only for info on SGS but other grading companies as well. I have an INB slab (International Numismatic Bureau.. another self-slabber slabbing pocket change at MS-70) sitting on my desk to remind me to learn about the coin first before even thinking about buying one. (ie: "Buy the book before the coin".. should have been tattooed on my forehead!) I'll take a $21 lesson over a $2100 one any day
