I was wondering if you could help me ID this piece? It appears to be american, any ideas on what purpose it served or how old it might be? Both sides are nearly identical, just the eagle faces the other direction.
Having collected tokens for over fifty years now, I'd not before seen this one. Its style suggests the "merchant era" to me. Rulau designated that being 1845-60. Of course, it may well be dated later. There were many gaming and political campaign tokens that display similar eagles. Perhaps, the subject piece was a salesman's sample?
