I agree with @mrwhatsit. I think it is authentic (though losing 30% of the weight is quite an accomplishment), and despite the mintage, the coin is not rare.
5 have sold on ebay in the last 90 days, and 3 more are currently up for sale.
That is not a sign of a rare coin, in my opinion.
