Thanks for the edge photo. Is it around the same size as a US large dollar coin? If so, definitely a crown. A halfcrown is a bit bigger than a US half-dollar.
The edge inscription should read "Decus Et Tutamnen, Anno Regni" and then "Vicesimo Octavo", meaning "An Ornament and a Safeguard: 28th year of reign". (Charles II had only come to the throne in 1660, but the Mint dated the coins from the death of his father Charles I in 1649: England had been a republic under Oliver Cromwell during the intervening years!)
