As the article explains, you cannot obtain "coins from Sparta" dating from Sparta's golden age, because Sparta shunned coinage for ideological reasons. Hoarding money was bad, coins allowed you to hoard money easier, therefore coins are bad.

Not entirely different to 20th century Communist countries, that deliberately created coins made out of cheap, unstable alloys that would disintegrate if you tried to bury them. You were supposed to put your faith for the future in the State, rather than in your own hoarded wealth.
