You sound like you've been at this for some serious time. The guy I bought the 1853 O half from was an older man who claims to have been selling coins since the '60s. He claimed he didn't believe the coin had been cleaned. I trusted, foolishly, his assessment and bought the coin. He also claimed it had a doubled die obverse and reverse, but after much investigation, I learned about the common Longacre Doubling. Anyway, they are all cool coins, and I hope I didn't overpay for them, but if I did, it'll be ok. It is a gift for my newborn son, anyway. I wanted something unique, not off a shelf. Bchill27 New Member United States 29 Posts	Posted 07/15/2021 09:52 am Arrrgh. It came back from PCGS as AU Details, damaged, smoothed surfaces. This one looked good to me. I don't really know how one goes about smoothing a surface of a 168 year old coin, but two of my five coins submitted came back with that designation. Very frustrating. Report this Post to the Staff
