Not desperately rare - they made them in this style in 1844, 1845 and 1847. There are some varieties, but nothing startling. This one is in reasonable condition - I would expect it to make £60 to £100 at auction in the UK.
Ah - looks like you have a Half Crown rather than a Crown - my mistaken assumption. Check the diameter - Crown is around 37.5mm, Half Crown 31.5mm.
Half Crowns were made in this style from 1839 to 1850 and then again from 1874 to 1887. 1844 is a fairly common date - 1839, 1841 and 1843 are much scarcer. In that condition yours would be worth £30 to £50 in the UK market - maybe more in the US.
