Okay, so I just started coin-collecting a while ago by accident. I just wanted to invest in silver and ended up obtaining some other pretty cool stuff.
One of which is this. (I assume it's british): (img attached)
Any idea of its value or the history behind it? I've done a pretty good job of researching other coins myself, but this one's got me baffled.
It's listed in the Davis catalogue of 19th Century British tokens lists it as Essex (British Copper Company) numbers 30 to 33, depending on the number of "acorns" in the wreath and if there's a dot after the word BRUTUS. The pic isn't clear enough to count the acorns, but your options are 14, 15 or 18.
As for value, my 1970 edition token catalogue lists them in the range of £2.50 to £3.25 each. Not much help.
This website has an AU one for sale for $75; and here's one in VF for 10 euros.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
