OK, I finally had a chance to snap some pictures of my Commemorative Dollars this week-end as well as a few other coins. I was in a bit of a rush so the lighting isn't great on the Commemorative coins, but the others should have turned out OK.

I know the Silver Wolf shouldn't be in with the BU Dollars, but I'm waiting for another case to come in so I can put all my SML's in one spot.

Very nice collection Hawk. I never knew coloured dollars were part of your collection. I typically just stick with the complete silver version proof or UNC, (1 example only), depending on the mintage #'s of each. Once again 1935 to 2009, with the exception of 2 of them..1948 and Queen Mum.
I've got them housed in this Lighthouse Aluminium case, along as you can see are some other items I keep there. The case is large enough to add some additional drawers if need be. I'm trying to figure out the case you have. Do not the coins on the top of that case, fall out when you close it? I'm assuming no..do they fit in there tightly?
My 1st effort in posting pics on this site, and I must say it was a challenge.Too large of file, getting it into paint shop to resize it..I was unsucessful in getting the images embedded within the body of the message.I can't even double click it and zoon in.

Regardless heres what I got. On another note I have approx 50-70 other RCM items, in another case (all within their original packaging), and my ongoing Canadian Decimal collection that perhaps Ill post at another time if their is interest.

Hi Dollar1948, yes I collect both the BU and Proof dollars but my collection only goes back to 1971.

The Enamel effect dollars are really nice and were first offered by the RCM in 2005 (Canada Flag). The Gold Plated dollars were purchased from a local coin dealer who had taken them out of Proof Double Dollar sets to sell individually. I just wanted to have them in my collection because they looked nice.

Both the Proof and BU dollars are housed in Deluxe J&M Display cases which have two trays that hold 32 coins each. The trays stack one on top of the other, but I put the top try into the lid of the case to make taking the pictures a little easier. The coins fit nice and snug and don't move around at all.........except when I turn the case upside down.........LOL.

You've got a pretty nice collection of coins yourself, you should post up some more pics. Try using the "Reply to Topic" link just above the Quick Reply box as it will give you additional options for inserting images into your post as well as changing font size and colour.

Steve

Good to see others with the Dollar bug. I have collected pretty much all the dollars, the circulated set silver 35 to 67 with major varietes except 45 and 2 47s and 2 other. All the nickle and all the commemratives 1 each, and all the loons including the specimen series. Need about 10 more to complete the entire series, I'm sick.

Dollar1948 if you're patient, you might be able to get one for less than $350. It took me about a month of searching and bidding, but was able to pick mine up on ebay for $275.00 US including shipping when the Canadian dollar was at par.

Nice deal Hawk. I wonder when we will ever see Can + U.S money being at par again?
Just checked ebay and they got a couple listed from the U.S so S&H is going to be greater. One is an active bidding listing with a minimum bid of $275 U.S, plus S&H, so that ones out of the question, another U.S with a buy it now/make an offer ending in 14 hrs. He immediatley declined my make on offer of $220.00 U.S.See link below.
Your right, I need to do the math properly, and be an opportunist...strike the iron when its hot.
I'm apprehensive with purchasing things from the U.S, as I bought an expensive Canada proof coin from the U.S this past boxing day, and Canada Post arrived at my door asking for 19 bucks. I paid it, just so I could get the thing in my hands.
It seems Canada customs intercepted it, and slapped a duty on the thing for some reason. Frankly after that episode I paid too much for the item. I sent in a form and all the supplementary documentation and contested it to Canada Customs, on the basis that the coin was originally manufactured in Canada. Other people who who agree with me and have had this same issue have sarcastically said to me, 'Good luck with that", as they sent in their forms for the same reason and never heard back from Canada Customs, and that was over 18 months ago.
I know they only made approx 6500, of these coins, very low mintage, but I'd love to see how many days after her death, did the price of these things go bananas. To be honest with you, I don't find the coin attractive in the least, but need it to make my collection more complete.
For those of you who do not know the coin, heres an ebay link.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...120358114485
Anyway, thanks for your help, and I will indeed sit and wait and wait like a cat ready to pounce.

If you are a serious importer, I've assembled all pertinent P.M. Import Regulations. I have compiled the various worldwide Tarriff and Customs Regulations. I complete my own customs documentation before items ship. This has taken me years to learn and to continue following changes. I have all the long form regulations listed below.

Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING, has a Canada Border Services Agency catagory.

To contest any due amount you need to quote the correct provision number below. The CBSA doesn't work for you and will not do your re-search. There are cost regulations and country of origin regulations as well. Free trade and GATT agreements...etc.

Canadian silver imported into Canada is indeed subject to duty(based on purity), and if over $25.00 Canadian. The "send it as a gift" means nothing. All items are evaluated. If your gift is under $25.00 then it may be duty free. There is also a CBSA handling fee structure.

Google CBSA for the complete PDF list... from chidrens' shoes and where they are made to the kitchen sink... literally thousands of pages for the complete structure.

Here is the reason

Thanks for doing all the leg work IB.
None the less, the cut and pastes from the site you have included quite frankly is gibberish to me.
Please keep in mind I have received other items from the U.S with-out it going through the custom process. They have only been Canadian coins, uncertain why this one was targeted.
I told the seller about the issue, and she assured me she has shipped lots of orders to Canada with no repercussion like this. She also went on to say that her research revealed that if it was produced in Canada then it is exempt. This makes perfect sense to me, as the idea of collecting duty on material is to try and protect the associated manufacturing industry in Canada. Once again, these things were manufactured in Canada.

"To contest any due amount you need to quote the correct provision number below. The CBSA doesn't work for you and will not do your re-search. There are cost regulations and country of origin regulations as well. Free trade and GATT agreements...etc."

On the form I completed, there is a section where I can indicate why I feel the duty was unjust, and expecting me to be a Philadelphia lawyer and quote that crap is totally unreasonable. The section didn't even ask me to indicate what section, sub section of the act is involved.
It maddens me that you only anchor the fact that I probably will not hear back from them as the consensus seems to be that customs doesn't work for me. As a friggin tax payer one would think I deserve some explaination, even if its in the manner of a form letter, with check boxes. If my vehicle got searched at the Canada/U.S boarder crossing while comiong back in, and they found something that warranted duty to be charged, you can be damned sure they will advise you the specific reasons.
Had I known this, I would have provided them a self stamped addressed envelope in order to drive the whole process more effectively.
Ok enough venting...lessons learned?.....don't look at anything that is shipping from the U.S. Fortunately in this case we are only talking about 20 bucks or so.
(This makes me think, did the U.S government charge duty on the Canadian coin goods being brought in)?

Boy you guys sure know how to "hurt' a guy!.. I'd give my "eye-teeth", (if I had any left), for the chance to spend a lot of time there. I'll bem ym Canadian collection would be more than a "million small cents", and a nice mixture of some mice maple leaves,, and a bunch of other nice coins, especiallt the Proof sets, and mint sets. I can't be that far, after all all I would have to do is go east a few hundred meters, and head north, across the whole USA, and then try to fid thatcoin shop in Canada. No problem at all, except they took away my drivers license, just because I am legally blind! "Look out everyone, here come dick"!!

Regarding the problems mentioned above, with the customs, is a long=standing pain in the butt, for many, many people, on BOTH sides of the border. They just don't seem to realize that if it were much easier to bring things either way, across the boredr, the money would eventually benefit both, but until someone sees the light, or deems it to be better for the nation as a whole, rether than a few, it will always be that way. I know of many people, on both sides of the border, that would love to be able to but boxes of cents, for example, and pay the normal duty, without all the hassle, but that is not to be. I would lke to buy from the RCM, and have a standing order for the proof, and BU sets that come out during the course of the years, but that is a NO-NO! It is rediculas to even think that could be possible. I wonder how difficult it is goiing to get, with the World Economic crisis ongoing, if it keeps gettiong worse, instead of better? Will that affect the "Customs" and their way of thinking, on BOTH sides? If it relaxes the rules, then let it continue. If not, then we are going to be even worse off! I have often wished I lived close enough to the Canadian border, (instead of the Mwexican), that I could visit several times a week, and buy less than a full box of cents, to make the total less than $25 dollars USD. That wouls be feasable, except: many banks won't sell a box of coins! They say because one , they need the cents, two, one doesn't have an account. What would be the end result, if I, for example opened an account in one of the banks? Or are "foreigners" not allowed this Privilege? Too many questions, not enough answers, or more accurately, NONE! Pardon if I rant, but it make me mad, the way business is done! They say everyone wants to progress, and enjoy life. So the sweat blood and tears for that purpose, but the Governm, ent, has to have their share! The lions shre! IOt used to be good trading practice, to give a fair amount for a fair quantity of goods, (govt be damned), but now , all the fair trades are none. I better quit! It is hell when one is born 80 years too soon.

Yeah, the gibberish is definately not for a casual importer. I did not bother posting the Acronym/Index list cuz it would be an effort on my part... and most wouldn't care for it anyway. It's just my way of saying that the CBSA usually would like some legal reason, as opposed to an emotional reason, for an adjustment.

I am familiar with the tear away form. And in the "Reason for refund/adjustment request" box you could state the description/purity of the silver(edit... or whatever product), and send along proof of that, and they would find the right catagory for the adjustment(if any).

Much, if over half, of what I've collected is from worldwide. Knowing the proper customs fees plays a big part in my purchase price as do shipping costs, etc.

The selection process for determining what packages are picked for customs inspection is a total mystery to me. And I'm sure that is the way it's supposed to be. I too have received items that have just sailed through. But these items would have contained all the rite documentation if selected for inspection.

Incidentally, the CBSA regs vary from province to province re: GST-PST / HST. For instance... in Ontario three 9s or finer precious metals are PST free and GST applied when imported. This is reversed when purchased in Ontario.

So, I try to know what effects me. Just thought I'd try to let you know what's out there.
