Who has them all from 1971 trow 2008. I'm missing 4, the queen mom (2002), 2006 medal of Bravery (just forgot about that one), 2005 gold plated canadian flag, 2006 gold plated victoria cross and all the 2009 ones that are coming out. I just love the commemorative silver dollars. My gold for this month is getting the 4 that is missing in my collection. A question some put in the wolf with the full moon in this collection is this ok...

Quote: ... 2006 gold plated victoria cross... A question some put in the wolf with the full moon in this collection... The Victoria Cross and other feature gold plated dollars came in both gold plated feature and plain silver. There is/was a Gold Victoria Cross set in the for sale thread. >>> edit... (I think malissadawn is the seller. $85Cdn, if I remember rite, is a fair price. I can pick up the same set locally for $90.) <<< edit... corrected. Me mind is wandering. The Wolf is a bullion coin(1/2 oz Ag). I personally would not consider it part of a silver dollar collection. It would be more closely related to the $5 Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins... hey, but to each his own and if you like it, it's your collection.

'Twas the most fitting for me from the standard drop down selection... Time for a change. Maybe to this? I'll get to it, really I will, you know, eventually like

How about the 2007 silver loon dollar? Do you have one of those? Or do you only keep to the large dollars?

Sure sounds like an interesting adventure..collecting ALL the commeratives. Like you I collect them as well, however only the typical large silver dollar commeratives. ie) 1 dollar poppy, 2007 Tyandaga, etc.You get the idea, they usually only bring out 1, or perhaps 2 every year. They come in both a proof and UNC version, and I have seen some examples where the mintage was lower for the UNC. If that happens I usually buy the UNC. I've got them all...1935 to 2008, with the except of the Queen Mum (man..that's one ugly and expensive coin), and a 1948. My favorite being the 1984 design (voyageurs canoeing in front of the CN tower) which I am amazed as it is one of the cheapest, along with my least favorite, the 1982 Regina..with the cow skull.(what were they thinking?).
Ive got them all encapsulated and situated within those lighthouse sliding drawers, all inside the aluminium carrying box. (I need to get computer savy enough to post a pic). I have all the original cases for these coins as well. It amazes me the variance in value of these coins within the same decade. One final note, any comments on why there were a number dollars that were originally packed in the small square plastic black cases? Those really seem to be the ones that I find don't have as much eye appeal.

I've got the entire commemorative dollar collection in both Proof and BU form from 1970 through to 2008 (Specimen for the '70 to '80 dollars), including the '02, '05, '06 and '07 gold plated dollars out of DD Proof sets. The 2009 Proof and BU dollars should be here any time now. I've got them housed in two J&M Silver Dollar display cases.
I think my favourite is the enamel-effect Thayendenagea dollar.
I would love to be able to add some of the older commemorative dollars to my collection, but finding them in better than average condition for a reasonable price is pretty difficult.

Hawk, I am unsure if you are in Toronto, but I can say there is a coin dealer Avenue Road and Eglington that has alot of these commeratives you are missing. This is by no means a plug for Taylor Coins, but I have always found their prices lower than the present trends and Charlton values, and they do wheel and deal. Unfortunatley they are not an ebay seller.Unsure if this helps with your search. On another note, really seems like you have done well with your collection thus far...much more extensive than my own

Hey Dollar1948, I used to work in the Yonge & Eglington area about 20 years ago and remember visiting a coin shop right about where you say Taylor Coins is located. I got some good deals there at the time......I wonder if it's the same place?
I'll try to take some pics of both the Proof and BU dollars this weekend and post them here.

Thats the same place Hawk,,,his son seems to run the place now, tho the old guy still hangs around back. Indeed deals are still to be had...ask him to see his books for canadian coinage...he's got alot of 1/3 and 1/2 off deals indicated on the 2 x 2's. Have a look at the coin cabinent on the left hand side on the way in, he's got some RCM stuff in there for next to nothing. Getting back to commerative dollars....you just have to go see it for yourself, I think you will be pleased with what you see. Here's another piece of advise....BRING CASH in order to eliminate any additonal charges..(wink..wink)

My daughter lives right around the corner on Braemar St. and I have been meaning to stop in to the coin shop on one of my visits. Avenue Rd. @ Eglington Ave.
