I was getting my car's oil changed this morning and happened to overhear an ad on the TV (stockmarket channel) for gold coins. I'm not sure what coin they were pushing for $85 or the fake mint name company selling the coin, but what did catch my ear was this pitch:

Think how much these coins will be worth when gold hits two thousand dollars per ounce.

Any ideas from the forum when gold will hit this price? I'll venture my guess at: 2109

I read an article by a guy over at Kitco.com saying gold will top $5,000 by the end of 2010. OUCH!

I saw part of that ad today, too...seems like they were pitching it as a real United States gold coin? No details on weight or what it really was. $84 each. Scary.

"Government Issued Gold" @ $84 per coin.

I did this deal last year, and while you should verify, I would assume the current one is similar.
-1/10 oz gold American eagle $5 coins (these are pictured in the ad).
-The maximum number of coins you may purchase is 10 (1 ounce of gold)
-Shipping was reasonable ($15-20).

Gold is currently $854/oz, so these are under spot price . Additionally, the 1/10 oz coins usually have a $10-$20 premium attached to them.

There is no website, you've got to call.

You *will* be subjected to marketing calls, urging you to spend money on higher priced, graded calls. DYODD on those, but I have avoided them, as they tend to be priced higher than what you can find from a local dealer or ebay.

NOTE: this is the only "deal" you will currently find advertised on TV. The rest of them (including coin auction shows and the current crop of silver dollar ads that are running) are all grossly overpriced.

Well if you listened to the "experts" back in March when it went over $1,000 it was supposed to be by the end of 2008. So much for the "experts".
