American Numismatic Society - Prof. Liv Mariah Yarrow's new book The Republic to 49 BCE: Using Coins as Sources (Cambridge University Press 2021) will be released in the United States officially on July 15. To mark the occasion, this talk addresses some of the challenges and joys of making numismatic questions and findings accessible and compelling for students and scholars of Roman history. She will also discuss the evolution of the book, lessons learned, and the projects it has inspired. Special attention will be given to new and disputed type identifications and their historical significance.

Liv Mariah Yarrow is a Professor at the City University of New York , in Classics at Brooklyn College and in Classics and History at the Graduate Center. She co-directs the Roman Republican Die Project with Dr. Lucia Carbone at the American Numismatic Society, preserving and expanding the work of Dr. Richard Schaefer.
