Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased two coin albums from Amazon for my brother who is starting to collect coins (circa 60-70 coins).

The album is this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coin-Album/dp/0307091406/

They were delivered to me, but I've noticed the album has no pages/inserts to hold coins, it is just the hardcover outside.

I have searched a bit online, but I cannot seem to find any generic coin holder inserts for the albums. They are "Whitman Classic" albums, they are not standard 3 ring hole type (from what I can gather). I haven't asked my brother as this is a gift and I'd really like to give him something he can use right away, he currently stores the coins in a box.

I can find coin specifc type inserts, (US penny, 1/2 doller etc). We live in the UK but my brother has a collection of various countries so a set of coin specific inserts wouldn't be practical.

I appreciate I am a complete novice at coin collecting, so please forgive me if I have missed the obvious. I have searched the forum but could not find anything.

Thank you for your time, any help is appreciated.

I think this is the best place to get what you want: Wizard Coin Supply. There are many other places, and I hope others will post the links to them, but this is one I personally recommend.

Here is a link directly to the Whitman Binders and Pages. But they only have pages for the US coins.

I would recommend going with the Dansco albums. Not only do they have generic pages (sized in millimeters) to hold many different sizes, but they have the vinyl pages that hold 2x2 cardboard flips, allowing you to mix-and-match coin sizes on any page.

I use the Dansco albums, but in my opinion the most versatile and economical approach is to use a three-ring binder and the 20-pocket vinyl pages.

Thank you jbuck. the links you provided are extremely helpful.

I fear I may have made the wrong move with the coin album (although I was under the impression a "coin album" would contain the pages too). thank you for our suggestion of the three ring binder. I will probably get my brother use something like that, call it a learning experience :)

Does anybody know of a decent UK coin supply shop?

Regards,

Wow, I didn't even think they made something quite that generic. It's like producing a book that simply reads "BOOK" on the cover!

JBuck is right on with his Dansco suggestion, though. It's probably the most versatile for someone that has a mixed type of collection.

jbuck gave some excellant resources. Also if you scroll down the Amazon page that you linked, you will find some sponsored links that sell additional supplies, ie. vinyl 20 coin pages.

Hi Collect4fun,

Unfortunately the 20 coin vinyl pages that are offered as a combination do not actually fit the binder/album. From what I can tell the pages are 5 rows high with 2in x 2in pockets. That makes the page 10 inches tall, whilst the actual album is only 8.9 inches tall.

Amazon offer them as a combination, but they are not actually compatible, a rather daft move in my opinion.

I've been using those for years now. When I get irritated with Whitman for having an Album with coins I don't want to collect, I make my own. Whitman sells pages for all denominations or at least they used to. They also have blank ones that you can do with as you want. For example the Dime ones only say Dimes on the top of the page. Now if they still have them, they used to also sell sheets of numbers and letters in Gold. They are press on so you can make your own pages with what you want. My favorite is the Dime Album I made for all Dimes from 1916 to present with NO error coins or misfits. No 42/41 for example. I've also made several albums with only D and P mint coins, NO proofs. Then too I've made an all Proof album this way. Try the Whitman web site. If you can not find what you want, try contacting Dennis Tucker, Publisher, Whitman Books.
