Any idea what this is?

From what I have come across, it looks like maybe a Venezuelan 4 reales that was cut down to this rectangular piece. It looks like it says 835 on the back, and the date could be 1821 or 1824. It's not stamped with CARACAS, and the designs in the cross look odd.

Indeed. It looks like a poorly made replica.

I would be surprised to learn that this was a genuine coin - it certainly doesn't look like one! Is it magnetic?

A tourist souvenir piece perhaps?

It's a replica of a Potosi pillars-and-waves cob. The details are more rounded off than a genuine one. The figures surrounding the cross don't look like castles and lions as they should. The date is below SVL, and consists of completely unreadable squiggles.

I agree with those saying it could be a poorly made replica. I bought it and a 1586 Hungarian denar that is authentic and looks like a VF for $25, so I wasn't expecting much on this one. I'll do an acid test on it to see if it's silver at all. It's not magnetic, but who knows what it's made of.

Thanks for the help!
