Yes, that's definitely "man made", it's called a counter-stamped coin. What did to "6" mean? Your guess is as good as mine. If you search on it (upper left hand corner) you'll find a whole section here on CFF devoted to counter-stamps. Most people here use their phone's camera which usually does pretty well.
