I am sorting through world sets that I have put together and trying to assign values. I looked in the 2006 krause and then try to cross reference with average value on ebay.

I noticed that for the 1957 100 lire from Italy in AU condition krause lists the value as $150. ($15 for XF) Ia m curious as to why I found it on ebay for a buy it now price of $6.95?

What is the actually values for this coin as I had been under the impression that krause is usually undervalued for coins.

thanks for any info.

ps if anyone has a photo of an AU condition 100 lire, please post as I would like to compare remaining details on my coins.

The evaluation on Italian catalogues for an 100 Lire 1957 is around:
- UNC 350-400 euro
- AU 270-300
- XF 25-40
- VF a couple of euro
The main reason is related to the fact that coins from 1951 to 1961 has been highly used w/o a lot of people storing them in UNC or AU condition, you can see the mintage for 1957 has been 90.600.000, and this is the reason why in VF grade the value is just a couple of euro.

below you have pictures of a couple of 100 Lire from an auction in Italy done last November 2008:
- 1957 UNC estimated 150 euro and assigned 200 euro
- 1958 AU estimated 200 euro and assigned 250 euro

thank you. I will have to take a closer look at mine. The only area of wear that I can see is on the little flower above the figures waist. other than that, there a couple of bag marks and that's it.

I have to say that when I started looking these up I got a little red in the face. Years ago when I pulled these out of the world coin bin..... I grabbed 7 or 8 of the 1957 and gave them to my mother. I didn't realize they had that kind of value.

thanks for your help!

I have a 1958, I would say it grades around XF. I didn't know these coins went up that high in price. I just placed these in a bag of foreign coins that are not silver. I also have one from 1961, 1967, and 1970; plus a 50 Lire from 1965.
