Hi all, Enjoying reading your comments so much I decided to join up. Thought I would let you know what happened to me 37 years ago. I had just migrated to Australia from England in 1969, I was 11 years old. We had to live on a Hostel in Perth, Western Australia until we could find a house of our own. One day I was running through the bush area on the hostel and I tripped on something, I turned to see what I had tripped on and to my amazement I had tripped on a rock and it had moved and exposed a heap of Pennies and Half Pennies that had been hidden under it. There was a lot of 1964 Pennies, so I assumed they hadn't been there any longer then 5 years. All were in good condition, I am not an expert, but from what I've read I would grade them as VF. I am posting an image if anyone would like to see some of them, these are only the duplicates the rest are in my coin album. If anyone knows what these are worth, if anything, please let me know. Thanks and keep up the good work. Great site. Does any one else have a story of finding coins like this?

Welcome to the Forum triggersmob.... The '64 pennies such as the ones you have posted would at best, fetch you a dollar each. Pity your find was not one of the rarer type pennies....[:p]

Hi triggersmob....welcome.
You have no key dates there so quality of coin will determine the price. Most of what you have is fairly common in low grades.

A good selection of pennies in your find. Value of your pennies is not determined just by the year of the coin, other factors like the condition of the coin, the grade of the coin have to be taken into consideration when trying to evaluate and the appropriate a figure value. This is not possible without at least looking at very clear scans/photos of the coin (both reverse & obverse). Another factor that has to be taken into consideration, especially with pre decimals is the varieties of some of them, eg your 1920 penny. Just this penny alone, you have a "no dots" variety, a "double dot" variety, a "dot above" & a "dot below" scroll variety. My advice is to investin a current copy of Greg MacDonald's "Guide to Australian COins & Banknotes" for a princely sum of AUD25.00 and then use it to determine the value of what is in your collection. It is well worth the expense if you are going to seriously take this up as a hobby. If that is not possible, by all means post the photos of the coins in your collection. Maximum of two or three at a time. We will try our best to help you out. Cheers....Lim

Hello and welcome to this great forum.
You are on your way to a full set. I would say these coins have more personal value then monetary.

Hi KLD. You're right they have more personal value. I don't think I would ever sell them, except maybe the duplicates or swap them for years I don't have. Triggersmob

Just as an observation and also a question; isn't it possible to obtain the use of this as well as other books on coins at the public library. I know that here in the states we can find these books in most libraries, thus allowing a person to see what is, or is not, available for their needs. Just curious!

Hi Dgoose50. Thanks for the welcome. My only problem with passing them on through the family is finding someone thats interested in coins. My kids show no interest, so maybe if I have Grandkids in the future, then they might be interested.
regards
Steve
