Both of these coins have post mint damage ( PMD) issues. The 1914-S looks to have what I believe is a minor lamination in the upper left-hand side noticeable by "IN" but very minor (no premium). All the cuts and marks are PMD. The extreme wear on these really hurts their value. The 1914-S is probably worth a few dollars alone, but the 1918 is too far gone, in my opinion. Sorry it's not better news.
PMD. As a general rule, PMD is easy to identify. Almost all PMD is the result of impact damage in circulation, and that is why, in most cases, it is easy to identify.
