I'm new to the forum, and have some early American money, however, I am currently very interested in this ancient? coin I received from my late father, he showed it to us children several times over the years, and we think he got it from his father. It is about the size of a quarter, and about the thickness of two quarters. I know nothing about ancient coins and am very interested in learning more about it. Any help or clues are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

The coin is Roman Provincial. Possibly from Neapolis, Samaria. Maybe Elagabalus. The reverse shows Tyche under the arch of a tetrastyle temple.

I don't know if they take "walk-ins" but you are close to one of the best places in the U.S. to get an answer to your question:

The M OΠ visible behind the bust stands for Marcus Opellius, which narrows it down to Diadumenian, son of Macrinus and Caesar 217-218.
