Hello
I have one seen a copper nickel coin that has a totally dark surface like black and grey what could cause it , is it corrosion , patina or error?

Definitely not an error. It didn't look like that when it was struck.
It could be several things, toning, environmental damage, been in a fire.
All of what would be considered damage.

Any number of things. Likely environmental damage or post mint damage of some kind, but could also be an improperly annealed planchet. Pics will tell.
