Sorry to be vague with the title, but I really am stumped as to what I'm seeing. Between the left set of jewels and centre of the Queen's crown there appears to be some sort of perfectly circular die crack, maybe, I think.
At first I thought maybe it was a plating bubble that could be popped with a toothpick, so I tried that, and it's firm, so not a plating bubble. Then I looked to see if it could a clash, pretty quick to find out that, no, as far as I can see it's not a clash. So then I searched C&C and old threads here, and yet again, nothing. So now I'm asking for help from those much smarter in this area of numismatics than I.
A bubble formed over a miniscule spot of contamination during plating and it popped near the end of the process. If you've ever seen metal being plated, the bath and metal often look like they're boiling from the chemical reactions. You can sometimes find them on re-chromed car bumpers.
