I often see mint bags of coins advertised on ebay and other places. It is no doubt an obvious question but how do people get them?. Only from the mint? - I don't see them advertised by the mint. From mint shows?

When the RAM do popup shops they swap them for face value like the bags of coloured $2 coins.
Sometimes you can get the bags from the banks as well, but they are usually in clear plastic bags with no writing on them.

Yes, and then you will have to get there very early, or wait in a long queue. :(

Indeed they have popup stall sometimes there is a limit, other times there as much as you can carry. Been to 2, long time they would also appear in royal Easter shows or maybe that just the machine that printed the dollar coins.

Last RAM show I went to was in 2019.
Managed to pick up multiple bags of all the
old and new effigy coins.
