I just returned from the London Banknote fair. I was in two minds whether to go or not since there's only a couple of note I wanted and I knew it was unlikely anyone would have them.

I will upload some pictures of my purchases later but I did find something to buy.

The four things of interest to me was a Dardanelles overprint note (commonly faked) two fractional US notes (seated Justice and Lincoln 50c) and US notes from the educational series.

Well the good news is the IBNS journal 60 has a complete list of serial numbers for those overprints this gives a lot of reassurance in buying one. The bad news is I am not an IBNS member so I can't access that information... I hope it comes to the public domain soon... not that I could find one (in truth after dealing with Simon Narbeth I had spent enough money that I didn't bother with the other half of the room.

It seems that the room was dry of American notes too. There is a complete drought now. Nothing coming from Europe or America due to the 20% VAT being incorrectly charged by customs (it should be 5%)

Maybe now would be the right time to sell my collection of US banknotes.

This was the main purchase, I have chased them in auction before and as it is a rare signature they usually escape me, very glad to have added this one.

A couple of postal orders just because I don't have any.

These were £1 each, it was a transitional currency in Ukraine when the USSR collapsed.

Looks like you had fun. I'm a little jealous. I would love to attend that fair someday.

It was a little quieter than normal this year. I really should have visited all the stalls but that Nairne note was a big enough add.

I sat and had a chat with George Rankin (who I have heard many stories about over the years) and I chinwags with Simon Narbeth for long enough though.

Thanks for the report, and some interesting acquisitions there. I particularly like the Russian notes.

Nice "Nairne" White Fiver 'DavidUK.' Good to hear you had fun catching up at the London banknote fair.
