tdziemia Pillar of the Community United States 7933 Posts	Posted 10/03/2021 4:10 pm I don't really know this type, but have been looking at some examples on acsearch to see if there is any obvious way to tell the difference. Here is the closest match I can find from Philip IV reign (Duplessy 221): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1351197 And from Philip VI (Duplessy 273): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2158848 Not knowing anything else about how to tell these apart, I would guess that the elongated curved base of the F on your coin would be the later reign, but I think we need someone with the Duplessy catalog to help. erafjel Pillar of the Community Sweden 2124 Posts	Posted 10/03/2021 5:29 pm So, Duplessy says that while for the deniers parisis of Philip VI there should be some small symbol (dot, star, etc) between PhILLIPPVS and REX, those of Philip IV do not have a symbol between the words. That, and a small difference in nominal weight which is entirely within the range of possible variation between examples (1.274 g vs 1.171 g), are the visible differences pointed out by Duplessy. On the coin here it is hard to see whether there is some symbol before REX. I don't think the form of the letters can be used to tell the two apart. It's weight (1.36 g) would point to Philip VI, if anything. Report this Post to the Staff
