Two Tone Silver/Copper Two Pence Coin

Basil74 New Member United Kingdom 3 Posts	Posted 10/09/2021 10:24 am Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the correct section of the forum. I've recently acquired this 2 Pence coin, the obverse is fully silver in colour whilst the reverse has a band of copper colour running diagonally across with silver colouration either side. Can anyone advise me if this is a genuine misstrike from the mint? I would have thought a misstrike would result in a fully silver coin on both faces rather than a streak of copper on one side? We used to do this with the old pre-decimal pennies using Silver Nitrate if we could get it, or other metal salts if not. Can be very convincing. BTW: Report this Post to the Staff
Basil74 New Member United Kingdom 3 Posts	Posted 10/09/2021 12:54 pm Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the reply, it does look very convincing to the untrained eye, having seen other plated coins the colouration on them was very obviously different to genuine silver coins, too bright and too silver, but the shade of this one is identical to a similar condition 10 pence piece. zookeeperz Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 694 Posts	Posted 10/25/2021 09:54 am 2000 two pence coins were copper plated steel this is a mint error where the copper plating is pretty much missing on the reverse and totally missing from the obverse.(IMO) Has a premium as such :) Report this Post to the Staff
