Can anyone confirm from this pic if the unusual marking between the two main feathers might possibly be an extra feather on this coin? It seems strange that it appears to be shaped like an extra feather.
just a stain. Does not appear to be raised. Acetone may even lighten it or remove it. There are no examples in existence of a 4 feather. Not to say that one might not show up. But the odds are astronomical/highly improbably. near impossible, given the die making process. One would have had to be intentionally added as the Wisconsin quarters were for example. It's more likely that an extreme doubling example of one of the 3 feathers could be referred to as such, but not so far.
