This is a weird question and topic for most. So as many of you know my budget for the hobby is very limited, I have never sold anything I have found and only add money into my coin budget when I can. I have been thinking if trying to sell some coins to add maybe 50-100$ to my budget but am now thinking I won't have to. I used to play many video games and MMORPGs, you can look the term up if you don't know it lol. Anyways the last one I was really into was called old school RuneScape. Much like my participation on here I had only ever played the game on my phone. My curiosity peeked about maybe selling my account so I decided to see if people were buying and selling accounts. Turns out accounts worse then mine seem to sell anywhere between 100-1000$:0. Sounds ridiculous right? But apparently there is a market lol. So I think I might try and sell my old account to add to my funds. It would be the first thing I ever sold on ebay or anything else for that matter. My main question here is are sold listing on ebay accurate when looking at this kind of thing? If you look up runscape accounts for sale(specifically osrs) old school RuneScape. There is many account worse then the one I made by far that have sold for well over 100$. I have never spent any money on the game but it does take a long time to grow in the game. Now that I don't play I think if ebay listing are correct I can probably sell my account for a decent sum to add to the hobby that I picked up in real life(or irl for Amy x gamers). I know most here are far to old to understand the topic but if possible just look at ebay listings and tell me if it possible for me to actually sell a virtual account for money, again no idea how online sales work in any way. As far as I can tell these virtual account kind of work the same way as life, you put the time and effort and skill and others will pay to not have to do it and buy it straight up for a premium. Edit: some spelling errors once again:p Edited by Wrekkdd 10/10/2021 9:19 pm

True. My son earned extra spending money in high school playing an MMORPG (whichever one earns gold coins) later at night than I wanted, and then selling the virtual coins. He now has a side business in the gaming card space that's helping him pay off his college tuition debt. Yes, an ebay "sold items" search gives you real selling prices. But beyond that I can't help, other than to say increasing one's budget for coins (and living within whatever budget you have) are good things. Good luck.

Based on what I see sold on ebay and my account stats and "items" I believe I could get at least 100$ for it no problem. Maxed all combat stats and slayer skill and high other stats. Anyways I think I will try and sell this account I used to play on and since it's not out of my normal budget I can put most of it into getting some much needed things for a proper collection and to purchase some of the coins I still need.

I know nothing on the subject. The closest I come to video games is playing Tetris on my phone during plane rides to keep me from causing a scene! I'm one of the few in my age group (33) that grew up without video games! (Good parenting ) I digress. I would approach it the same way you would selling a coin. Find a sold listing with a similar account and price accordingly. Don't sell yourself short. Shoot a bit high if you want to accept offers, but not too high to scare off potential buyers. Sounds like a good idea for some extra cash! Best of luck!

@Ty2020b, thanks I never thought something like this was bought and sold, especially for the sold prices I have seen and for sale listings. Lol it's like fining money in an old coat pocket:p.

its not illegal, however the companies own the accounts so if they come down with the BAN stick be wary both you and the buyer could get IP banned. even if you had a huge ring of accounts I doubt you get legal action, just don't go mad with power. heard habbo hotel, neopets, runescape, eve online, WOW, warframe all have hmm as you would say virtual exchanges, just be careful there are hackers and what not. For the newer games I think PUG and Fortnight might also have account selling each community but have very different attitudes to exchange/buying in game credits for real world money its quite strange as most games are cross jurisdictions so yeah I don't see how plus, as long as you aren't selling/targeting to minors it should be okay.

Thanks for the info I'll have to look into that and make sure I do it properly so the account does not get banned. All of the listing say no email, I assume it due to the fact if they match the email to the account then see it for sale they would ban it.

So looked into this a bit and it seems even though the account is property of jagex, the username and password is not, so there would be no way for them to know it was bought or sold unless the person who decides to buy it goes around shooting they bought the account. Still seems like a risk to sell but worst case they close an account on a game I no longer play really and I loose nothing. Worth a shot, now I need to find where the best place to sell it would be.

Haha found something else I can sell for a bit more hobby money. I have an old working PS3 super slim 12gGB hard drive. By far the dumbest system I have ever bought due to the fact it can mayb have 3 games saved before it is full. Apparently they are collectible though as I see many are selling (sold) for between 80-300$, unfortunately I don't have the original box but I see sold listing for the consul alone for 88$+ shipping. I wonder what I can get for mine, I think I'd be better off selling online then bringing it to a new and used store.
