Dear members, Recently (in last 6 months) I noticed few (quite rare) Probus coins on ebay. All of them have odd surface that indicate on casted fake. Moreover (again) all of them are covered in yellow patina. There are 2 examples. Please, tell what do you think.. And second piece - the same "soft" details, colour etc. Even shape of planchet is the same (sic!)

Yes having two coins like that leaves little doubt.

Definitely a die match, but the coins look very convincing. In other words, from just looking at the pics, I wouldn't have condemned either one.

Thank you all for your responses. It's quite strange - almost all of them were sold via uk's ebay. Did someone report these on FAC? I know that 'augustus coins'precisely and scrupulous list of fake sellers. I thought about coins from maridvnvm' post when I have been writing this topic. The same style, green colour and sometimes yellow patina.

I have started adding them to the fakes reports but there are many dozens of different coins that I have found thus far. Here a sample of some that I have already added. They are not actually shipped from the UK they are shipped from Bulgaria.

Balkan countries... Why I am not surprised at all? Some of these fakes are expensive (100 pounds for Probvs from 1st post). BTW: Dear marindvnvm,Can I ask you for the e-mail? Sometimes I have some questions about our favourite caesar.

maridvnvm thank you for posting. Your pics definitely help and show signs of sand casting.

Okay, now I am fool. I don't know it's just a coin in very bad condition or it's another fake (I think about right one). The same history: rare bust, very rare variant (unlisted by Oliva, I haven't checked Alfoldi yet).. The same eliptic shape of flan, but... surface is other, and it has some natural (i guess) corossion. I can't take a look on these and take them to the hand, but left one looks on gold platered (sic!).
