I recently made my first purchase from the US Mint. They use UPS to ship to Canada. I had to pay the HST before receiving my items. These items are 99.9% silver, so therefore should not be subject to Canadian tax - correct? Is there a way to recoup the HST I paid?

there is an address in your customs paperwork you can write to and ask for a refund.
should have never been charged when the shipment is an export.
they will blame it on computers...
however, If I remember right, the purity must be better than 00.9.
I think it has to be 99.999

Depends on the items . Bullion items yes , numismatics .999 fine is a grey area .
In BC many .999 items are PST taxable and GST 0.00 rated .
What did you purchase?
Never ever use FedEx , UPS , etc when you can help it .
Insist on USPS much less complicated !

1. Google CRA Casual Refund Form B2G
2. Include your paperwork proving the 99.99% purity, like a COA, and import form B3
3. Mail and wait 4 weeks.

I purchased 2021 Morgan dollars. I've had positive experiences with USPS when I have bought items from US sellers in the past, but I don't think I have a choice with the US Mint using UPS.

Based on the CRA website https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-ag...l#P213_10371 I think these qualify. Thanks tripoli for the info. I found the form and will give it a try.

I submitted the paperwork to the CBSA in mid-November. I finally received a cheque in the mail today for the first of my two submissions. I'm glad that this process worked!
