Hello everyone...!
1st of all I would like to thank you all for your opinons. I am rather new to this board and I find it very helpful. I buy coins off of ebay to add to my collection. My question is....If a coin is professionally graded say by PCGS as MS64 and the same type coin is Graded say by NNC or NTC will they be woth the same or does the graders opinon make it worth more?

Thanks in advance...

Tim

The top two grading companies are PGCS and NGC. Next ANACS, ICG, PCI.
Then probably SEGS, NCI
The companies you speak of are most likely overgraders. Meaning they may have an AU-58 coin according to The upper companies, but they would say MS-63.

This is a very hot topic and I am sure others will chime in as well.
SGS is horrible. One company to definately stay away from.

Edit:
Some of the other companies aside from PCGS, NGC have been known to over-grade at one point in time. ANACS seems to be stepping up their standards.

So on ebay, you can pick any three letters in the alphabet, type it in, and their will be a "grading" company. Those you want to stay away from, or if you buy them, do not buy close to what they say the grade is.

In order of my preference PCGS,NGC,ANACS,ICG.I would avoid all others like the Plague.ICG has improved recently, but stay away from their modern coins graded MS69 and MS70;at present these grades trade much cheaper than PCGS or NGC.

Is it that easy? Am I doing something wrong. For example, I am looking on the PCGS website and see that a 2004 S Peace PR69 and a 2004 S Keel Boat PR69 are both worth $30.00 each and looking on ebay I see more than a few "Buy it now" for both coins together for $45.00

The "PCGS" prices on the "PCGS" site really don't mean anything. If you don't believe that ask someone who has tried to get those prices.

I have a real problem with this serious conflict of interest. I could start BOB Grading, then tell you on the same site a BOB EF45 2006 Lincoln Cent is worth $4.00. Hmmmm... [:p]

in my short experience in collecting I would stay with PCGS or NGC, I am actually a member with NGC but I always look for a PCGS coin before I look for NGC just because they seem to bring a higher price for the same coin just because it was graded by PCGS. And alot of the times a PCGS ms-64 will actuall be a ms-65 by MGC standards becuse PCGS is very strick and seem to undergrade more than overgrade

TPATNA,Every one has their own idea of what a coin is worth, and what they want to sell it for. When choosing apples to apples: to use a tired old analogy,if they are equal in every other way,I will make my decision by price. The key is to know what you are buying and compare different vendors;therefore if the ebay seller has a good satisfaction record, I would buy what I percieved to be th cheapest.

I am only specialised at photograding gold in MS63 to MS 65
All TPG's overgrade according to my own evaluation
A Belgian offered a French coin as PCGC MS64 It was marked in the middle with a lot of old finger grease
I would never pay that price for something I can pick up unslabbed at 60% of the price and in better condition
