Now that I am getting a better idea of what a Dansco 7070 folder is, I am intrigued by it. It sounds kind of cool to have one of each so to speak. Open up the album and you see a slice of American history from it's founding to the present day.

How popular is a 7070 style collection? Do some people specialize in it?

I'd almost want to buy one and slowly begin filling the holes but I am worried about the US Mint going overboard and making the 7070 obsolete. Then I'd have to get another album that has the extra hole for all the extra coins they are making.

Does anyone have a 7070 style collection but in 2"x2" mylar flips instead? How do you arrange the coins?

Typesets are among the most popular of collecting "specialties." I'll bet most of CCF members who collect US coins either are working on a typeset, used to work on one, or will be talking themselves into one in the future.

Dansco just rode the wave with that 7070 album, and the fact that they've been around for so many years attests to the popularity.

you don't have to worry about what the mint does because its a 19th and 20th century type set so it ends with the year 2000 and it includes only the coins that were made in those centuries, none before and none after so the mint can mint as many other types as they want and it will not be included in a 7070 album but they will make other albums for just about everything the mint spits out as long as they are popular enough

I'm working on my third 7070 set. I have put "extras" in my type set, just not in the 7070 album, like the other two varieties of the silver trime as there's only one hole for 'em. I wish the 7070 was more inclusive, especially of the earlier 18th century coins. It would seem more complete to me that way, but it would also be more expensive to complete.

I read somewhere that the 7070 is being revised by Dansco and split into two books. If I were interested in starting one, than I would buy the older album quickly in case they go out of stock in case this is true. As for me, I completed my acquisition of all the types before putting them in the album because I didn't want to disturb the coins by repeatedly sliding the plastic in and out. Of course that went out the door when I couldn't resist upgrading the set to better graded coins.

it seems like everyone had their mind made up when they started one of these albums that they were going to do it this one way and they do pretty good with that plan until one day they decide their first plan isn't as good as they thought it was going to be and decide to go another way with the album. Thats why I love it, no matter if you think its finished, it still may not be

Right you are Bryan. Not just upgrades, but changing out the coins that have more than one variety to choose from, for another that you like better. I just took out one commemrative half and replaced it with a BU Ulysses S Grant that I just acquired. It is very customizable (is that a word?) I don't think mine will ever be finished as long as I am around.
