1978-Silver-Coloured-Canadian-Penny?

Penny is silver (but not like a true silver pre-1968 dime or quarter), slightly magnetic and weighs 3 gram (my scale is not very sensitive so it rounds to full g). It is not greasy like mercury would do

Have seen on here these could be plated or other countries planchet.
Scratch on edge shows no copper. When dropped it does not sound like a penny, more like a nickel.
how do I find out what it is?

sorry pictures not great. It is actually a very nice coin, doesn't look circulated

Although the RCM did mint coins for foreign countries in 1978 that are around 3 g, unless we have a much more accurate weight, I agree that it's most likely plated.

I'd say plated as well. The coin is just a copper (.980) alloy so it shouldn't be magnetic except for a tiny bit of nickel. Dropping it on the floor would sound like a copper washer.

Maybe it has been rubbed with mercury.

Canadian cents have been plated in many colours as a marketing tool.
I bought a set for my granddaughters collection that had one each of silver, gold, pink and blue.
