Hi, been reading some comments about the up coming National Park Quarter series. National Parks were established under Teddy Roosevelt's office and he was a big naturalist. Some people have suggested that he should be on the obverse of the new quarter. I am curious what people think.

I would not be opposed to the idea, but I do not think it will happen. The longer we have gone without changing the people on our coins, the more resistant to change the people have become.
I also think that if they did change the quarter, there would be even more resistance to retiring the one dollar Federal Reserve Note; which is another change that is long overdue.

I agree that people get used to things, but if Washington is going to ever come off the quarter, the best time will be in 2010 with the introduction of the program. I am like you, I dont think it will happen.

I certainly like the idea of Teddy on circulating coinage. Emailing ideas and suggestions is certainly the way to get ideas going.

And stop making 9999999999999999999999999 different types of quarters in 2 decades. Then maybe we can get a $5 Washington circulating commemorative like the British modern crown

Oh, that would be a good idea too! A five dollar coin I could actually spend!

I am tired of Presidents on coins, let's honor "other people" that have had an impact on our nation. I think John Muir would be a great reverse on the National Park quarters.

I would really like to see somebody new one the quarter but, like everyone else, I don't think it will happen.

I wouldn't mind if we have to have Presidents on the coins, but it is only 10 months until the National Parks quarters start coming out. The mint usually claims it takes 18 to 30 months to create a new design. ALL of the first designs for the first 11 years are supposed to be ready for approval 175 days after the signing of the bill, and that was 45 days ago. That only give them 130 days to draft new legislation, pass it, and get a new design. And I don't think coin designs are high on the Congressmens minds these days.
