Boy, no way I can compete.

It's not a competition and you know it. If it were, your Portuguese paper money collection would be 2nd to none. You also have some very nice US notes, IIRC.

[I] simply encourage best practices & I am well aware there are all types of collectors out there. It's what makes numismatics so interesting.

I completely understand where you're coming from and I do gnerally subscribe to the quality over quantity method. I try to buy the best examples I can afford whenever possible. One day I hope to be able to focus on collecting high-end notes. But if that day comes I don't think it'll stop me from collecting "supporting" notes.

Gospel truth right there. No matter what you collect.

Since the Krause/Pick system is defunct, what are people using instead?.

I just enter my notes on Numista but there's other sites.

I don't think the Krause/Pick system is going anywhere since most sellers/collectors I encounter still use it.

I understand that the banknote book has challenged the old K/P system (since merging with Greysheet) but I don't think they've posed a threat much (I only see a small percentage use their # system).

Thanks, will check those out. I guess it only applies for new currency issues but it's difficult to search for, research, and properly catalog notes with the "P-new" designations.

I fully agree with the statements about the quality, though I choose the quantity first. I'm not planning to part with my collection in my lifetime, so I do not care what my relatives could earn with my collection.

I started into world paper money with the aim to collect one note from each country and I still do it. In doing that, I got deeper and deeper into the hobby. Doing the research I have found some interesting and exotic countries, worth to collect more than only one note.
It is not so difficult to get at least one note from every nation of the 193 UNO members, apart from few exceptions. And you can get them in uncirculated condition.

If you go further to collect the countries of the three SCWPM catalogues, it will get really tough. And I can assure you, that you will not be able to complete this, unless you can spend unlimited cash.
In other words: you should collect some other aspects of the vast variety world paper money will offer you.
