I received a few coins from Mexico, one is a 50 cent piece, the date however, says 1888. This time of coin wasn't produced in 1888, but it was in 1998. I found a guy online saying it's a common thing, and then someone selling their coin on ebay for 9k pesos. Not really interested in selling, but if it's a rare coin I'd like to take more care of it than just throw it in a pile.

Hi jdford and

For us to be able to see the coin properly, please could you post larger and clearer photos of both sides, plus maybe an enlargement of the date area? Thanks!

Sorry, retook the picture with different light and background. Doing it by phone, if this doesn't work I can try the computer for better image. Hopefully it works better.

That is a 1998. When the coin starts to wear, the 9 starts to look like an 8

And with a mintage of over 200 million, not a scarce coin so little to no value, especially given its condition.
