I notice I didn't answer your question initially, apologies for that. The edge of the coin is mostly ground down, but there is one small area where I can make out the pattern. If you want a better picture I can attempt to take a decent one.

I understand forgeries are your forte and passion, but that is not entirely true for me. I purchased this coin fully intending that it was real at the time and it was nabbed for $80. What I think I enjoy is the age of the piece I purchase, that's why even if it was contemporary counterfeit, I would find it interesting since it was still old and had an interesting story to tell. If I'm able to get a refund I feel that I can purchases a genuine piece I can have continual interest in.

My 1778 8 reales was weighed and it comes in at 26.2 grams, which I think is too low for the condition it's in. If it happens to be a recent forgery as well, I'm afraid I'll lose interest in it too, which would result in me wanting to refund it as well since I spent slightly under double the price of this 1808 8 real. If I could get a refund on both the pieces, assuming the other one is a forgery too, that would be more than enough for me to purchase another coin I always wanted, like a lion daalder.

In the end, I don't feel the money spent on these coins was worth it with my lack of enjoyment owning them.
