I came across two Washington D's today at the bank. That had the edge lettering Oriented "flipped" towards the reverse all others I have seen have the lettering oriented to the obverse. Is this normal?

Peace

Yes, it is normal. On the business strike coins, the edge lettering occurs after the strike...the lettering can be oriented either way on the coins.

When I first started looking about 8 months ago I saw the same thing and thought I had a winner. I hate it when I study the coin and find out it's normal.
