I am trying to learn and interested to get your thoughts on the reverse of the following coin. What might have happened to the reverse? Was it a coin that was dug up or was it in salt water for years? or something different?

IMHO, this coin appears to have undergone ED, been scrubbed and had the surfaces "reconditioned." It likely looked far worse before the treatment. While it's a fairly sharp details coin, to me it's an over-priced filler.

Just for my edification, what are the signs of the scrubbing, ED, etc. on this coin?

Thanks

Both sides appear to be lightly etched.
